It’s almost here! Time to
think about what kind of hairstyle that your kids might want, especially if
they plan on being busy this summer. The object of all the styles that we will
list in this article is ‘easy to do’, making them very popular with kids on the
go, and their parents. We break them down according to the sexes, and give you
some happy tips to keep these styles rolling until the first class bell rings
in the fall…
Boys: Surfer Chic
One of the most popular boys’
hairstyle choices of the past is making yet another comeback this summer. Easy
to style, easy to maintain, it is the best summer look for boys of any age. To
achieve the proper level of surfer chic with this look, start with an
all-around short cut, leaving some length on the top, like one-half to an inch.
This will make it easy to apply some styling gel, and finger style an unkempt,
surf-swept look, without even having to hit the waves.
Girls: Pixie Cut
A hairstyle made popular by
stars like Anne Hathaway and Miley Cyrus, the pixie cut is a low maintenance,
easy to wear look for summer. The hair cropped short, with a razored nape that comes to a point. You can
alternatively leave it a little longer on top, and style it with a curling
iron, for that Tinkerbelle look, if wanted, for special occasions.
Boys: The Mini-Mo
This
look is a particular favorite among elementary and middle school age boys.
Unlike the regular Mohawk hairstyle, the hair around the head is not shaved,
but left at a normal length instead. The hair on the top of the head is left
slightly longer, in the center, like a spine or shark’s fin. When the miniature
Mohawk is desired, simply use styling gel to make it stand up. When attending
affairs where the mo might be frowned upon, simply comb it to each side, like a
raised part, down the middle.
Girls:
The Princess Braid
For
girls with medium to long hair, the summer hairstyle of choice is often a
braid, rather than a pony tail. The princess version is similar, simply two
braids on either side of the head, which will be laid along the base of the
head, following its contours. You should also have a collection of charms and
beads to interweave along the length of the braids, to give the hair a royal
treatment. For older girls, you bead smaller braids, like mock cornrows, in
whatever pattern you choose.
